For every account you open with Canada Life, you must designate a beneficiary. This can be a person or an organization. (“Estate” is considered an organization).
It’s easy, here’s how:
- Sign on to My Canada Life At Work and click on the Group Retirement Plan button.
- From the main landing page, click on your initials (or an icon of a person) in the top right corner.
- Then, click on Your Profile, which will open a menu page per the image below. See image below
- Next, click on Beneficiary and Dependents to update your choice.
What if your beneficiary is your spouse and you’re now divorced? If you’re comfortable with keeping your choice as is, that’s ok. The experts at Canada Life suggest that you update your beneficiary whenever you have an important change in your life, like divorce. To learn more about this and other factors to consider when managing your will and beneficiary choice, visit Canada Life’s What is a Beneficiary page.
